Japan adopting data portability for individuals

Japan eyes easy consumer access to personal data

In order to follow the steps of the European Union, Japan plans protection of individuals’ data. Note what their goal is: The country’s trade and communications ministries aim to have such a system operating in the 2020s. An expert panel will propose a data portability framework within this fiscal year designed to allow easy transfer of such information from one storage environment to another at an individual’s request.

If this were to go through, it would be a breakthrough in protecting personal data, not just in Europe, but in a powerful market like Japan.
